Undeloh
Welcome to Undeloh, the heart of Lüneburg Heath!
Due to its perfect location as the only community in the middle of the Heath nature reserve, Undeloh is particularly popular and sought after: a starting point for getting to know and experience a unique symbiosis of culture and nature, for exploring the largest contiguous heathland in Central Europe, which surrounds Undeloh.
The vastness and special character of this landscape offer rest, relaxation and tranquillity, as well as many cultural, historical, ecological and gastronomic attractions.
Undeloh is the ideal place for tours through the heathland, to Wilsede Museum Village, to the Wilseder Berg and Totengrund - car-free by coach, bicycle, on foot, or in the saddle.
There is
a variety of landscapes to admire, with the characteristic junipers, open
ridges, streams, mixed forests and wetlands; so you are invited not only during
the spectacular heather blossoming, but in every season.
The community of Undeloh ...
With the districts of Wesel, Wehlen, Meningen, and Thonhof, it totals about 950 inhabitants. Characteristic farmyard oaks, erratic boulder walls, half-timbered courtyards, historic buildings, carriages, and excellent food all contribute to the special feeling of the community. This preserved rural character invites you to stroll and wander, and on the historic village tour visitors can experience much of interest. Explore the place and relax in one of the many cafes and restaurants, enjoy the heath specialties such as the famous buckwheat cake or the unforgettable Heidschnucken roast.
Modern infrastructure
Free Wi-Fi is available to all visitors.
Street
lighting has been completed on the main roads "Zur Dorfeiche" and
"Wilseder Straße" as well as at the village pond, on the market
square, at the Heathland Adventure Centre and at Wilseder
Straße car park.
St. Magdalene Church in Undeloh dates from 1189; with its secluded bell tower is one of the most beautiful Heath churches. In the summer months there are concerts of the chamber music series "Musik in alten Heidekirchen" ("Music in old Heath churches").
Another magnet in Undeloh: the Heathland Adventure Centre of the Verein Naturschutzpark, which opened in mid-2009. Here you can learn all about the heathland in a multimedia way. The tourist attraction!
Offers, leisure:
The Heathland Education Trails in Undeloh and Wesel lead through particularly beautiful parts of the nature reserve. Panels provide historical, geological, ecological, and cultural information.
There is a 4km-long Family Rally trail around Undeloh. Answer the Rally questions and win a Heath Expert certificate. The questionnaire and certificate available at Tourist Info or in Heathland Adventure Centre.
Carriage rides are always a very special experience. Many carriage companies are available for you. In the season there is a carriage service to Wilsede. But be sure to book your carriage in advance.
Undeloh is also ideal as a starting point for trips to nearby attractions, such as Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park, Soltau Heide Park, and Walsrode Bird Park, as well as the cities of Lüneburg, Hamburg, and Celle. You can find out more at the tourist information centres.
Excursions
can be
booked to Hamburg with city and harbour tour, to the musicals or to Heligoland.
Celebrating
parties
is something the Undeloher understand. Rustic barn evenings with homemade
music, Heath songs and stories are very popular with visitors in August and
September. Whether at the big Easter bonfire, putting up the Maypole, the shooting
fair in Wesel, the large village festival in mid-July, or Advent market around
the village pond: here you can really get to know the Heidjer.
